Purpose of Position
The Director, Safety Management Systems is responsible for identifying hazards that may result in harm to people, equipment, business, or brand reputation, ensuring NetJets Aviation (NJA) safety policies, processes, and regulations are understood and complied with in all company activities and assisting functional departments in controlling risk to acceptable levels.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Oversee, NetJets’ Safety programs to: Identify hazards that may result in harm to people, equipment, business, or brand reputation.
• Manage Risk by: understanding hazard root cause, likelihood, and severity, understanding acceptable levels of risk, measuring, reporting, and identifying trends toward unacceptable risk, and ensuring stakeholders are sufficiently informed to take appropriate corrective action, appropriate to their level of responsibility.
• Ensure policy, process, and procedures (written and unwritten) are effective in maintaining acceptable levels of risk through direct policy creation, change, or through safety recommendations made to policy, process or procedure owners.
• Oversee NetJets Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) to ensure effective, just, and comprehensive audits including reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions and resolution tracking
• Oversee NetJets’ Safety communication program to ensure a just culture while igniting a passion for safety throughout the organization.
• Ensure Safety manuals, job aids, and process documentation is current, effective, and compliant.
• Oversee NetJets’ Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and preparedness by ensuring effective procedures, training, and documentation.
• Prepare reports, presentation and facilitate meetings with Executive Leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other (KSAOs)
- 4+ years in an aviation management position (maintenance, dispatch), or serve as a line pilot, with a certified air carrier (91K, 135 or 121)
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively manage multiple work groups and projects.
- Pilot's license or an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) or equivalent experience in the field of work
- Previous experience with SMS or IEP program management or oversight
- Professional experience and/or education in auditing or investigations
- Familiarity with safety analysis, trending and risk assessments
- Able to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to write effective reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
- Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to effectively present on both the individual level and to large audiences, including NJA employees, industry professionals and federal agencies
- Must be detail oriented with a proven ability to prioritize multiple objectives in a dynamic environment with constantly shifting priorities.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities PC Skills including: MS office Suite (word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
