Purpose of Position
The Safety Assurance Manager is responsible for monitoring safety performance, evaluating the effectiveness of safety risk controls, supporting regulatory compliance, and providing oversight of data-driven assurance activities within the SMS program. The Safety Assurance Manager works cross-functionally with operational leaders, subject matter experts, and employees to identify trends, assess changes in the operational environment, and mitigations that improve safety performance.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Lead Safety Assurance activities within the SMS, including safety performance monitoring, measurement, analysis, and reporting.
Develop and maintain processes and systems to acquire safety data related to operations, products, and services.
Monitor operational processes and the operational environment to detect changes that may introduce new hazards or affect existing risk controls.
Plan and oversee audits, evaluations, and assessments of operational processes, systems, and SMS effectiveness.
Analyze assurance data and related information to identify trends, emerging risks, control weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
Assess safety performance against established safety objectives and key performance indicators; prepare findings, dashboards, and executive-level summaries.
Evaluate the effectiveness of safety risk controls and partner with operational leaders to define, assign, track, and verify corrective and preventive actions.
Support management personnel by providing timely assurance information for leadership review and decision-making.
Coordinate with Safety Management Systems, Quality, Compliance, Operations, Maintenance, Training, and other departments to ensure SMS integration across the organization.
Maintain required SMS documentation and records associated with Safety Assurance activities, audits, assessments, and corrective actions.
Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and inspections related to SMS and Safety Assurance.
Promote a positive safety culture through communication, collaboration, and reinforcement of reporting, learning, and continuous improvement behaviors.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other (KSAOs)
Demonstrated knowledge of FAA Safety Management System requirements, including 14 CFR Part 5 and associated guidance.
Experience facilitating hazard analyses, risk assessments, root cause analysis, corrective action management, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, assess control effectiveness, and develop risk-informed recommendations.
Experience with audits, investigations, data analysis, management reporting, and safety performance monitoring.
Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence stakeholders at multiple organizational levels, and manage multiple priorities in a regulated operational environment.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and communicate effectively with leadership and frontline teams.
Experience building and maturing Safety Management System (SMS) programs, including safety metrics, reporting processes, investigations, and data tools, with a focus on long-term scalability and continuous improvement preferred.
