Purpose of Position

The Training Quality Assurance Program Manager leads the airline's Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) data monitoring and training quality assurance efforts. Responsible for overseeing the collection and analysis of pilot training performance data, identifying trends or safety events in training, and driving continuous improvement of training content. Performance metrics and events are used to enhance curricula and safety. The manager operates with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating closely with flight training leadership, and instructors to ensure AQP insights translate into effective training interventions.

Tasks and Responsibilities

AQP Program Leadership

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and administration of the AQP data monitoring program.
  • Ensure all aspects of AQP data collection, analysis, and reporting comply with FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 121 Subpart Y and related Advisory Circulars). 
  • Provide leadership in setting AQP program goals and strategy in conjunction with the Director of Training and Flight Operations management.

Data Trend Analysis

  • Lead the analysis of pilot training performance data (simulator events, checkride results, line-oriented evaluations, etc.) to uncover proficiency trends, areas of risk, and training gaps. 
  • Oversee the creation of regular AQP data reports and dashboards for Flight Training leadership, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and actionable insights.
  • Ensure that identified trends are used to recommend improvements or modifications to training modules and curricula.

Curriculum Improvement

  • Collaborate with the AQP Manager, instructional design teams and simulator instructors to update or develop new training content in response to data-driven findings. 
  • Use AQP data insights to drive curriculum enhancements that address areas where pilots struggle or where new risks emerge.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals for curriculum changes and manage the FAA approval process for those changes.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure the AQP program meets all FAA requirements and documentation.
  • Oversee the timely submission of required AQP data reports to the FAA (monthly, quarterly, annual as mandated). 
  • Support FAA AFS-280 (Training and Simulation Group) in AQP matters.
  • Lead internal and external audits of the pilot training program, presenting data and evidence of AQP effectiveness to regulators or auditors.

Team Management

  • Lead AQP analysts or data specialists, delegating tasks for data collection, auditing, and analysis. 
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to ensure accurate data processing and insightful analysis.
  • Monitor the team’s performance and foster professional development.

Performance Monitoring

  • Track the effectiveness of training interventions by comparing pre- and post-change performance metrics. 
  • Provide regular briefings to senior management on AQP outcomes, training quality indicators, and any emerging concerns.
  • Use data-driven storytelling to advocate for resources or changes that will enhance pilot training and operational safety.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other (KSAOs)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation training, safety, quality assurance, or related operational analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data analytics, including trend analysis, data visualization, and performance metric reporting (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL).
  • Working knowledge of FAA Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) or FOQA preferred, including familiarity with 14 CFR Part 121 Subpart Y and AC 120-54A.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex datasets and translate insights into actionable training improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in preparing reports and briefings for senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Leadership experience preferred; prior people management, mentorship, or project/team leadership sufficient.
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively manage initiatives in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
  • NLP Analysis (Natural Language Processing Analysis) experience preferred.
